Hello my people!
For those who are unaware, Ramadan is a month with many purposes, one of which revolves around the spreading of charity and glad tidings. With this in mind, I am hoping to raise money in support of IDRF by participating in the Somalian Response.
Why Somalia? Two main reasons.
1) In 2017, over 6.2 million people-roughly half the nations' population- were in need of humanitarian assistance according to the OCHA (UN Office For the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs) and due to severe weather conditions and a multitude of other factors, millions are still in need of aid today. Over the past several years, some areas in Somalia have consistently been ranked as the most dangerous places in the world. In addition to the political and social instabilities, the region has been hit with droughts for several years.
2) Somalia rarely makes the news, but make no mistake, the situation has remained desparate for a long time. The hardships of black people are overlooked in many discourses and it is no different in Islamic discourses.
3) Even if you can not donate, please keep the conversation going. You have already done something, because someone you may know might have no idea about this catastrophe and they can then help spread the message too!
We must face the fact that racism is a big problem in our society today and in particular Muslim circles. It is precisely for this reason that I hope to focus my efforts this month on helping those in need in Somalia. I am well aware that a donation here will not solve the larger issue, but it would be great if we could ease a little bit of hardship. It would be nice to let people know, we have not forgotten them.
By making a donation, you are helping some of the most marginalized people in the world.
Please make a donation today and help people who need it the most!
Thank you so much for your help and time!
